We plan an annual trip from New Orleans to Kazan, Russia where we have annual strategic planning meetings.
Every year we invite our clients to join us on this trip, and this year we’re opening it up again and starting the planning process.
We are exploring collaborating with 500 Startups around Geeks on a Plane which will be hitting Eastern Europe in late September.
It’s an amazing opportunity to visit Kazan at a beautiful time of year. If you’re interested, please email me at chris@flatstack.com.

It’s Saturday night at SXSW, do you really want to spend your night waiting in a line wrapped around the block trying to get into tonights “hot” party? Yeah, we don’t either. Or at least we’ll wait until the line has died down and saunter up fashionably late.
Come hang with Pete and Chris to meet other Flatstack clients and talk shop about your app ideas, your current app, or anything you want. Beers are on us.
- What: Secret Location (ok, TBD)
- When: Sat March 10, 6-8pm

If you haven’t checked out Eric Ries latest post on the S-1 filing for Facebook, it’s worth a read.
While personally I’m not always a fan of the way Facebook has developed as a company, you can’t help but be wowed by the numbers that have come out since the filing.
To me though, the most interesting part of all of this is the message that Mark Zuckerberg sent to shareholders that shared his view on Facebook continuing to follow what he calls “The Hacker Way”. Several of the points he touches on are values that I believe are core to FlatStack and the type of company we strive to be each day.
The Hacker Way is an approach to building that involves continuous improvement and iteration. Hackers believe that something can always be better, and that nothing is ever complete. They just have to go fix it — often in the face of people who say it’s impossible or are content with the status quo.
Hackers try to build the best services over the long term by quickly releasing and learning from smaller iterations rather than trying to get everything right all at once. To support this, we have built a testing framework that at any given time can try out thousands of versions of Facebook. We have the words “Done is better than perfect” painted on our walls to remind ourselves to always keep shipping.
I highly recommend you read the rest of the post by Ries and share your own thoughts about what “The Hacker Way” means to you.
